Join Mark on his next trip to Japan!
You can spend a week looking at thousands of fantastic Koi and visit dozens of the best Koi breeders in Niigata. You will also get the opportunity to see some of the local places of interest (the Koi Museum is a must!). Our host and agent, Japan Koi Export, will be on hand to act as interpreter and to help find the Koi you are looking for and negotiate the best deal for you. They will also do their utmost to make sure you have a wonderful and truly memorable trip.
Do I have to buy fish?
If you don’t plan to buy any Koi, but just want to visit Niigata, then you can join the trip at an additional cost of just 10,000 Yen (approx £70 depending on exchange rates) per day. If you find you can’t resist and decide to buy some Koi after all, we will refund part or all of the day cost. For the basic costs involved in visiting Niigata, please see costs involved. We will arrange to have your Koi shipped back to the UK soon after your trip or you can choose to keep your fish in Japan to grow on. When your Koi return to the UK you can collect them from Heathrow when they arrive, or we can quarantine your Koi for you (see our quarantine service). We are completely flexible and the choice is yours. All of the paperwork is taken care of, so it couldn’t be simpler.
How does it work?
We normally fly out and back on a Sunday, although this can be flexible, and it means that we arrive in Japan early on Monday morning. You book and pay for your own flight from Heathrow to Haneda (we can co-ordinate to make sure you are on the same flight as Mark) arriving at around 7.30 am local time. Then you will travel the short distance to where the Shinkansen (bullet train) departs for Nagaoka station near Ojiya, where you will be staying in Ojiya at the New Plaza Hotel. The journey on the Shinkansen takes about two hours (you buy your ticket at the station) and when you get to Ojiya, you will get your first experience of visiting Japanese Koi breeders! For the rest of the week you will visit dozens of breeders, look at thousands of fantastic Koi and pop in to see some of the local tourist attractions. Each evening you will eat out at one of the many restaurants in Ojiya. The trip is flexible and can be shaped by whatever is happening in Niigata at the time. For example, in April 2017, the 5th International Junior Koi Show was about to take place and Mark and his guest were invited to join a group of some of the most famous breeders in Japan for dinner one evening (Kentaroh Miya (Miyaishi Koi Farm), Katsuyuki Hoshino (Hoshikin Koi Farm), Mitsunori Isa (Isa Koi Farm), Futoshi Mano (Dainichi Koi Farm), Kataoka Taro (Ooya Koi Farm)) and then to join them for the after show party!
The next trip departs on Monday 6th to return on Monday 13th November 2017. To book a place on this trip, or to enquire about buying trips, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01844 217382.
